How to Use This Theme
-Â Character. When our moral and ethical roots grow deep into the ground we are able to stand firm against the tempting forces of this world, as Paul encourages his fellow Christians in 1 Corinthians 16:3-4.
-Â Family. The blessings of a large family are like a firmly rooted tree, providing strength and shelter throughout generations. These blessings may come in the form of literally large families, such as with Old Testament characters like Job, or spiritual families, as reflected in Paul’s writings, for example in Ephesians 3:14-15.
-Â Humility. Being “rooted” means exhibiting a humility that comes from knowing who we are (in Christ), where we come from (our families and traditions of faith), and where we are going (our calling). Jesus exhibited this true humility when he washed his disciples’ feet. (John13:1-20).
-Â Jesus. The centrality of Jesus to our relationship with God and our ability to grow and blossom like fruit is demonstrated in his analogy of the vine and the branches. When we abide in Christ, we will be like branches bearing much fruit. (John 15:1-11)
