How to Use This Theme
-Â Atonement. The blood of Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, negating the necessity of sacrificial cleansing, opening the Temple curtain and allowing us to approach God with the confidence of our faith. (Heb 10:19-22)
-Â Sacrifice. As God’s people would sacrificially offer their best possessions to God in expression of faith and obedience, Jesus offered himself as a living sacrifice for the sins of the world, captured in the symbolism of the crown of thorns. (Rom 12:1-2)
-Â Salvation. The blood of Christ shed at the cross was a necessary sacrifice. By giving his life, Jesus kept believers from experiencing death, or eternal separation from God. (Heb 9:11-28)
-Â Suffering. The first station of the cross is the crown of thorns. It is the beginning of a journey of self-reflection, asking, how willing are we to take on the heart of Jesus? (Mark 15:15-20)
