How to Use This Theme
– Healing. Jesus makes a paralyzed man whole and uses it as an opportunity to illustrate that faith in Christ is the air freshener that removes the stink from our lives and makes us smell good. (Matthew 9:1-7)
-Â Holy Spirit. The breath of the Holy Spirit is the fresh air of forgiveness amidst the stench of grief, fear and anger the disciples felt after Jesus was crucified. (John 20:19-31)
-Â Repentance. As Jonah discovered sitting inside the stench of the whale’s guts, turning away from God stinks. God wants us to freshen up the things inside of us that are rotten. (Jonah 2)
-Â Service. Jesus teaches that at the final judgment the ‘good’ will enter the kingdom of God and the ‘bad’ will head to Gehenna, the eternal garbage dump. How fresh or stinky the eternal air around you is will depend on how we have treated ‘the least of these.’ (Matthew 25:31-46)
